When the autumn starts, the cold and dark weather makes some of us feel low or even depressed. Here are some great tips on how to avoid the autumn blues.

1. Lighten up your home

Despite the darkness outside the window, lighten up your environment. This will make you feel better. No-one said that those beautiful string lights can only be lit only at Christmas! Shiny bulbs or cosy fairy lights in your house will encourage a cheerful mind.

! Choose energy-efficient solutions like LED lights to avoid raising your electricity bill !

2. Go for a walk or a run

Physical activities boost the production of endorphins, so called feel-good chemicals.
Exercises improve your physical health and reduce the risks for different diseases as well. You will also feel better about seeing positive changes in the mirror! Remember those jeans that used to fit?!

! Please don’t forget your safety and use a stylish reflective vest while walking of running during the dusk. Buy your vest here !

3. Watch a good movie

Positive movies will make you feel more jolly. You can find ideas for good comedies online. For example, check out the IMDB top comedies here.
Enjoy it together with good company and sweet popcorn….yuuuuuum.

! Before choosing a movie, make sure you see the trailer and like the plot of the movie !

4. Eat some dark chocolate

It is scientifically proven that a little dark chocolate can make you happier. It increases the level of endorphins in your body. Well, that’s not a hard one, yes please!
Research from University College London has proven that people who reported eating dark chocolate in two 24-hour periods were 70 percent less likely to report depressive symptoms than those who did not. (reference: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/da.22950)

! Don’t eat it too much to avoid getting depressed due to putting on weight !

5. Have a massage

Massage has numerous positive effects on your body, including on the nervous system. It reduces stress and anxiety and promotes relaxation. It also increases dopamine levels (pleasure) and serotonin levels (good mood). Both help decrease stress and reduce depression in the autumn months.

! Before choosing a masseuse, make sure it is someone you can trust. Get a tip from a friend for their favourite !
